Great nature experiences

One of the big advantages of working as a surveyor at Jøsok is that the next trip, and the next amazing nature experience, is never far away.

‘I spend a lot of my time outdoors, often in the type of terrain you don’t normally seek out when hiking,’ says Frederik Iversen Styve (aged 30).

Originally from Voss, he graduated as a surveyor from Western Norway University of Applied Sciences and has worked at Jøsok since autumn 2020.

‘I was looking for a job that meant I didn’t have to spend the whole day in an office. As a surveyor, you have many options. There are jobs where you spend a lot of time outdoors as well as out-and-out office jobs. I like being outdoors, so it was natural for me to go down that path,’ says Styve.

At Jøsok, his job is, in practice, to find the best routes for power lines based on technical and financial criteria. The choice of route is based on large amounts of data, but the choices are always verified by physical land surveys.

‘The terrain doesn’t always match the map, which is why physical surveys are important. The combination of office work and being in the great outdoors makes the work varied and interesting,’ says Styve.

It was precisely this combination that was important when he was looking for a job after graduating. At the same time, he wanted somewhere with a good working environment and good support from colleagues.

‘We are about 25 people at Jøsok, which means we work closely together and really get to know each other. The threshold for talking to and asking the person sitting next to you is therefore very low,’ says Styve.

He underlines that he is always shown a lot of trust and that the company focuses on getting the job done, rather than on how it is done.

‘Jøsok practises freedom with responsibility. I don’t know what it’s like in big companies, but the freedom to think for yourself and come up with your own proposals for solutions is one of the things I really appreciate. For me, Jøsok has been a very good choice. I’m very happy with the work and with my colleagues,’ says Styve.

No two working days are alike. At Jøsok, they are concerned that we should not specialize too soon, but become broad specialists. Therefore, I get time to get to know and learn all aspects of the power team. As a recent graduate, this is something I really appreciate, says Julie Sofie Stave Sandviknes (24).
